A girl contacted us recently and she had purchased the abortion pill, but before she took it she learned that she was having a chemical pregnancy.
What is a chemical pregnancy?
Have you ever heard of it?
A chemical pregnancy is an early miscarriage that occurs before the fifth week of pregnancy. Some women may not even realize they’ve had a chemical miscarriage unless they took a pregnancy test and received a positive test and then later took another test and now it’s negative.
Other signs of a chemical pregnancy include.
• A late period (by a week or more)
• A heavier than normal period
• More menstrual cramping than usual
• Mild stomach cramping
• Low hCG levels
• Lack of common pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness or breast soreness after a positive test.
What causes a chemical pregnancy?
There are a few causes such as imbalanced hormones, genetic abnormalities in the embryo, lack of proper implantation in the uterus or low body weight.
Light bleeding is normal in the beginning of any pregnancy when the fertilized egg is being implanted into the uterine wall, but you may have had a chemical pregnancy if the bleeding is as heavy as a normal period.
Chemical pregnancies are relatively common and often go unnoticed and if you are thinking about abortion its important for your safety to confirm fetal viability with an ultrasound. There’s not need to get an abortion if your body is naturally expelling the pregnancy. We want you to know we are here at Care Net PRC of Neosho to listen and help you through this difficult time.
