WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE GETTING AN ABORTION?

There are 10 things you need to consider before getting an abortion.

  1. AM I PREGNANT?

As with any medical procedure abortion does come with some risks.  These risks can be physical, emotional and even relational.

  1. HAVE I CONSIDERED ALTERNATIVES TO ABORTION?

For example, have you ever considered adoption?

  1. DO I KNOW WHAT TO DO IF I CHANGE MY MIND?

You can change your mind at the last minute.  No one can force you to have an abortion.

  1. DO I KNOW HOW THIS CLINIC HANDLES COMPLICATIONS DURING THE PROCEDURE?

Make sure the clinic has a plan to provide emergency care, should any complications arise during or after the procedure.

  1. HAVE IN GOTTEN INFORMATION ABOUT THE ABORTION PROVIDER?

Do your research!!!  When you call to schedule your abortion, ask for the Doctors name.  Find out if he is licensed and board certified and if there are any malpractice or disciplinary actions are against him.

  1. ASK:  WILL I FEEL PAIN?

Everyone feels pain differently.  Some have a higher tolerance to pain than others.  Some women have said they felt “moderate to severe pain” while the others stated “none to mild pain”.  There are three options to consider to help manage the pain.  They are local anesthesia, sedation, general anesthesia.

  1. ASK: WHAT FEELINGS CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE ABORTION?

Some experience immediate relief, but months, even years later, struggle with their decision.

  1. DO I KNOW MY RIGHTS AS A MINOR?
No one can legally force you to have an abortion, including your parents.

  1. HAVE I BEEN TESTED FOR STD’S?
