You just found out you’re pregnant!
You’re scared!
You can’t have a baby right now!
What are my options?
If you’re thinking about the abortion pill, do you know how it works?
Before we get into how it works, I want to stress that any woman considering the abortion pill should have an ultrasound done to verify that there is a pregnancy inside the uterus and the exact gestation age, how far along you really are.
There are two pills, Mifepristone and Misoprostol. You can take these pills up to 10 weeks after your last menstrual period (LMP).
On day 1 you will swallow Mifepristone which eventually causes the embryo’s death. Twenty-four to forty-eight hours after taking mifepristone, Misoprostol tablets are taken which causes cramping and bleeding that expels the pregnancy.
What to expect…
Heavy bleeding may occur up to 2 weeks with severe cramping. By 10 weeks from LMP, the developing baby is already over an inch long with arms, legs, hands and feet so while expelling the embryo, you may see fetal parts.
Following up with your physician is very important and usually done a week or two afterwards to make sure the procedure is complete.
1 out of 100 women experience life-threatening bleeding and may require a D&C to stop the hemorrhaging.
Before you decide, do your research to see if this really is the way you want to go.
